Things that are more interesting to me than IT

Post by MotRod »

This was a brainstorming session I knocked out on one of my many whiteboards while trying to come up with what I really need to do with my life.
I have several whiteboards and I don't like to part with any content I create so since I need to clean this one off to use for other things, I am transferring it to here.
This is an unfiltered exclusive.

Snowboarding - (If I could do this for pay and my body would hold up I would love to do this)
Inventing - Seriously
Camaro - This is more an expression of my mechanical and analytic tendencies coupled with my interest in working with my hands and propelling my body at high speeds all wrapped up into one. Unfortunately I have begun to devalue petroleum combustion technologies and expect something better will come along so I don't want to pour my heart into a dying platform. I do love it and would like to continue with it at some point when I get my car back.
Improving (this was a bit smudged and there is an * next to it so im not quite sure what it means, I presume it just means I like being better at everything I do, which you know, who doesn't?)
Creating - There is no creativity in my current profession, the most creative thing I have done was color coded some dudes HA server clusters network cables into a rainbow. Absolutely functional, and mostly coincidental but that was pretty clever, you don't get to do stuff like that often in my line of work. Mostly break fix.
DJ music - I spent a long time listening to DJ music and to this day it remains my favorite genre of music, if you can call it that as it's mostly just reworking others' music. I also spent a lot of time practicing to create my own music compositions/mixes however after a lot of effort into scratching technique I lacked the basic creativity that lends itself to developing my own compositions.
Working with my hands - It's true. Can't really describe this much better. Any sort of work where manual dexterity is required is fun for me.
3d Animation / Design - I've dropped hours on hours playing with this stuff. Great way to think and create. I would like more formal artistic training if I wanted to do this seriously so I understood many of the applicable terms involved in the software used.
Integrating Ideas - For some reason I find myself greatly interested in this concept. I think an integral component of the evolutionary process is the coupling of like but similar components in a way that creates a new entity with enhanced vitality. I feel ideas share this same property and developing a technology that facilitates that process is something that keeps me up at night..literally.
Exercise - I'm addicted, have been since 1998 or so. I blame my brother.
Healthy living - this is redundant
Solution finding - There is something i must inherently enjoy about finding the solution to diverse problems.
Writing - I enjoy the practice of articulating my thoughts with (unfortunately) the only language I know. I think writing is a good exercise for the brain and facilitates clarity. And I'm a hell of a typist.
Language - I suppose I should have a very eloquent description here but for a comedic twist I'll just say I like to talk good.
Internet memes (lol wut?) - There's something fascinating to me about memes, specifically memes that originate in online communities. I love seeing them born, evolve and spread into the wild and I don't know why. It must have something to do with my interests in evolution and crowd influence below...weird..this list is strangely making more and more sense as I type it. I am absolutely not kidding, i've never really though about these connections until now ,...crazy.. TIMESTAMP!! 21:19, 11-08-2011.
Evolution - I have very strong feelings on the evolutionary engine and its force in the world. I feel like the process is not "seen" enough in our daily lives and I think it deserves more attention. I think if we focus on how that engine has worked in the past and reverse engineer it to the point of perfection, we could solve many of our political social and technological problems. This is a tough one for me because I can't really articulate with empirical data how or why I feel this, it just feels to me like something I see..everywhere. This thought requires more time and experience to flesh out. Maybe a science degree.
Forward thinking - For many of the reasons above (specifically idea integration) I like to predict the future. I think its natural for people to want to be the first to have an idea and I am constantly trying to find a way to cash in on these things.
Crowd influence - I typically couple this with the ideas of evolution and several of the others above and try to develop a marketable product around it. I think there is more to my interest in the crowd than that however. I value the concept of collective input. This goes back to my evolutionary thoughts as well in that by maximizing the inputs into a proposed output, that output receives the best possible dna for success.
Comedy (like that wasn't obvious)
